Bike Friendly Florida

A cycle friendly church.

March 18,2026

Florida is one of the reddest of the red states and my liberal friends might translate that to mean that they are all about cars and hate cyclists. This only shows how we can let pre-conceived opinions lead us to wrong conclusions. Cyclists and cycle friendly people come in all political shades and this is abundantly true in Florida.

Florida has latched on to cycle tourism and cycle friendly recreational opportunities with just about the same degree of vigor as Orlando latched onto Mickey Mouse. Bike trails are everywhere and they are building one of the largest network of interconnected trail systems in the USA. Going hand in and with this is their promotion of Trail Towns and Cycle Friendly Businesses.

Even the churches want in on the action. In the photo at the top of this post is a church not far from Titusville, where they make it clear that cyclists are welcome. If their outward appearance did not make this clear enough, they also created a trailhead with free, long term parking on their property. It was a shame that I passed by on a Tuesday or I would have stopped in for a quick howdy-do with the Man Upstairs.
